Why this platform is built the way it is
PROODOS is grounded in current research on teaching, learning and artificial intelligence. This page gives the big picture; each module also carries its own "Why we teach this" with the specific studies behind its content.
The short version: AI can genuinely help learning, but only when it is embedded in sound pedagogy. The technology alone is not enough.
AI helps learning, but pedagogy decides
Research shows that AI-supported learning can have a strong positive effect on outcomes. Crucially, that benefit depends on how AI is integrated into teaching, not on the tool itself (Zhang et al., 2025). The same technology can help or distract depending on the pedagogy around it.
Preparing teachers for AI is still new
Professional development that prepares teachers specifically for AI is at an early stage. There is a clear gap between what teachers need in order to use AI well and what most training currently offers. Bridging it means attending to three things together: what teachers understand about AI, how they keep learning, and how their growing competence is recognised.
Technical training is not enough
Study after study finds that knowing the tools matters far less than knowing the pedagogy: how to use AI appropriately in a specific classroom, with professional judgement, ethics and support (Aravantinos et al., 2026). Ethics in particular is often the most neglected part of teacher AI literacy, which is why it runs through the whole programme (Ning et al., 2025).
AI reshapes the teacher's role
Working with AI gradually shifts the teacher's role from being the sole provider of knowledge toward being a designer and facilitator of learning. This is a change of professional identity as much as a change of skills, and reflection and professional confidence matter as much as technique (Isma'il & Ibrahim, 2025).
AI can support a teacher's own learning
Used well and with structure, AI can also scaffold teachers' own self-directed, reflective growth, not just their students' learning. PROODOS is designed so that reflection is built into every module rather than added as an afterthought.
How PROODOS puts this into practice
The platform brings these findings together: 15 UNESCO-aligned modules, a reflective structure across every module, and a per-module evidence base that pairs established pedagogy with current AI research.
